Pagdating kay Presidente, tanggap siya ng taumbayan eh, hinalal siya nang ganiyan, hayaan natin siyang ganiyan pero hindi para gayahin ko bilang spokesperson,&quot; he said.</p><p>(Free discourse is important to me and proper language should be used. When it comes to the President, he is accepted by the people. He was elected as he was, let us let him be, but he&#x27;s not someone I should imitate as a spokesperson.)</p><p>Roque added that the President is not encouraging the public to emulate him.</p><p>&quot;Ang Presidente hindi naman niya sinasabing gayahin siya, ang sinasabi niya wag niyo ko piliting magbago dahil ako’y napakatanda na,&quot; he said.</p><p>(The President does not say imitate him, he says not to force him to change because he is too old already.)</p><p>&quot;Hindi ko sinasabing gayahin siya, pero sabi niya wag niyo rin ako piliting magbago, dahil ako naman hindi ako naging plastic nung tumakbo ako, ganito talaga ako at tinanggap ako ng taumbayan.&quot;</p><p>(I&#x27;m not saying we should imitate him, but he is saying not to force him to change because he did not hide his true personality while he was running for president. That&#x27;s who he is and the public accepted him.)</p><p>The President has been criticized on several occasions for his <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/06/21/18/palace-duterte-need-not-be-a-role-model-for-kids">cursing</a>, allegedly<a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/10/29/18/duterte-didnt-mean-to-offend-with-spit-remark-palace"> misogynistic remarks</a>, and controversial statements against the <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/11/26/18/duterte-people-should-stop-going-to-church">Catholic Church</a>,<a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/09/22/18/they-want-to-send-me-to-prison-duterte-blasts-icc-eu-anew"> international rights bodies</a>, and world leaders such as former United States President <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/10/04/16/duterte-to-obama-go-to-hell">Barack Obama</a>, to whom he has since <a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/09/03/18/i-am-sorry-duterte-apologizes-to-obama">apologized</a>.</p>
