MANILA - The maximum speed limit along EDSA has been reduced to 50 kph from 60 kph, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) said.

In a statement on Wednesday, the MMDA said the Metro Manila Council (MMC) approved the speed reduction to minimize accidents on the major highway.

"The MMC also approved to lower the speed limit from a maximum of 60 kilometers per hour (kph) to 50 kph. The said measure was to further minimize vehicular accidents," the MMDA said.

The MMC is composed of 17 Metro Manila mayors and is the policy-making arm of the MMDA.
