MANILA (UPDATE) — One of two gunmen allegedly involved in the shooting of a couple inside a bus in Nueva Ecija last month has been arrested, police said Tuesday.

The suspect was arrested on Nov. 20, just 5 days after the attack, the Central Luzon police said.

It said the two gunmen, an unidentified driver, the female victim’s son, and his live-in partner were charged with two counts of murder at the prosecutor’s office in Nueva Ecija on Monday.

In February 2023, the female victim’s son and his live-in partner allegedly stole one of the victim’s cars. Then, in April 2023, the same suspects forcibly entered the victim’s house in Cauayan, Isabela, opened the vault, and allegedly took land titles and cash amounting to P2 million.

The victim immediately filed charges of robbery and carjacking against the suspects. A warrant of arrest was issued in September.

The 2 suspects posted bail in September, and it was during this time that the plan to kill the parents allegedly began.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN, the suspected gunman alias "Allan" admitted his involvement in the killing but emphasized that alias "Umpak" and the victim’s son alias "Tisoy" were the ones who planned the murder.

Allan said they were offered P60,000 for each victim's death and allegedly received an initial payment of P20,000 from Tisoy.

The suspect said he deeply regretted his actions and apologized to the victim’s family.

"Sa konsensya ko po, sa habag po ng aking damdamin, tao lang din po akong nagkakamali... Basta importante hindi po natutulog ang Panginoon," Allan said.

He also appealed to Umpak and Tisoy to surrender and face the consequences of their crime together.

Allan is in the custody of the Nueva Ecija police.

The 60-year old female victim and her 55-year-old live-in partner were shot six times pointblank by two unidentified men while riding a bus in Barangay Minuli in Carranglan town on Nov. 15.
