MANILA -- The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Sunday urged barangay officials to implement 24-hour real-time monitoring of CCTV footage in their areas.

Pabantayan niyo 'yan para magamit as crime prevention, hindi for recording lang,” DILG Undersecretary Martin Diño said.

The police must also conduct frequent checkpoints, especially in crime-prone areas, he added.

A memorandum circular will be drafted by the DILG to ensure compliance, Diño said.

Natatakot sila. Kung hindi nila kaya, mag-resign sila, ibigay nila sa first kagawad,” he said.

In recent weeks, Chinese nationals have been tagged in kidnapping cases in Cavite and Makati City.

Diño said the government should take serious concern on the matter.

“It's high time tignan ng gobyerno natin. Hindi pwede," he said.

The Philippine National Police has said it was closely coordinating with its Chinese counterparts and Beijing's embassy in Manila in monitoring the movements of Chinese personalities involved in criminal operations.
