Joel Chua hopes officials of the Office of the Vice President and Department of Education will attend their hearings to shed light on recent issues and revelations.&quot;Tingin ko mas maganda na umattend yung mga ibang resource persons from the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education ng sa ganun ay mapaliwanag nila ng maigi &#x27;yung mga revelation na nailabas po ngayon,&quot; he told reporters after the hearing on Thursday.<div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/17/house-panel-seeks-subpoena-lookout-bulletin-vs-ovp-officers-who-skipped-probe-1332">House panel subpoenas OVP officers who skipped probe</a></div>Earlier in the day, the House panel issued subpoena ad testificandum and lookout bulletin against several officials of the OVP for skipping the investigation on the use of its budget, especially its confidential funds.The subjects of the subpoena and lookout bulleting are Vice President Sara Duterte’s Chief of Staff Atty. Zuleika Lopez, OVP’s Assistant Chief of Staff and chairperson of the Bids and Awards Atty. Lemuel Ortonio, and OVP’s Director for Administrative and Financial Services Atty. Rosalynne Sanchez.Also included are Special Disbursing Officer Gina Acosta, Chief Accountant Julieta Villadelrey, and Edward Fajarda.The House panel later extended the subpoena and lookout bulletin to DepEd Assistant Secretary Sunshine Fajarda.<div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/9/18/vp-duterte-moves-to-terminate-house-probe-into-fund-use-this-is-a-political-attack-1150">VP Duterte moves to &#x27;terminate&#x27; House probe into fund use: &#x27;This is a political attack&#x27;</a></div>In a position paper submitted to the House panel, the officers said the data requested by lawmakers could be verified through Commission on Audit reports.They also alleged that the subject of the House panel investigation was &quot;not in aid of legislation&quot; and questioned the jurisdiction of the committee to conduct the inquiry.&quot;Of course siyempre &#x27;yun ang sasabihin nila. But so far as the committee is concerned, we have all the jurisdiction, we have the mandate. In fact nagissue na kami ng subpoena sa mga resource person, kasama na po ba diyan yung mag-asawang [Edwin and Sunshine] Fajarda. Tingin ko ito ang magandang venue para masagot po nila yung mga tanong at kaninang lumabas sa ating committee hearing,&quot; Chua said.&quot;Well out of respect po sa kanyang position. Pwede naman po itong sagutin ng kanyang mga subordinates… Kung siya po ang magpapakita then well and good. Sana nga lang mag-take siya ng oath at sana nga lang sagutin niya ang mga katanungan,&quot; he further explained.The House panel will still discuss what issues to tackle for the next hearing.
