Dennis Datu, ABS-CBN News</div>MANILA — The Office of Civil Defense on Sunday said the number reported deaths due to Severe Tropical Storm Kristine has increased to 90.In an interview on Teleradyo Serbisyo, OCD spokesperson Edgar Posadas said these numbers are still up for validation, since they will check if the deaths are related to the storm.&quot;Reported &#x27;yun ah, these are running real-time count (That is under ‘reported’ as part of a running real-time count),” Director Posadas explained.In the 8 a.m. situational report of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), nine deaths and one missing person have been validated so far. <div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/regions/2024/10/27/camsur-lawmaker-appeals-for-urgent-aid-for-bicolanos-after-kristine-s-wrath-1244">RELATED: CamSur lawmaker appeals for urgent aid for Bicolanos after Kristine&#x27;s wrath</a></div>All nine deaths are from the Bicol region, while the missing person is from Central Luzon.The NDRRMC reported 5,784,298 individuals or 1,415,438 families were affected nationwide. 2.5 million persons are from Bicol Region alone, followed by 936,951 from Central Luzon and 685,049 from Eastern Visayas.Over 488,000 individuals were also affected in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.More than 91,000 families have trooped to evacuation centers and over 48,000 are taking shelter in other places.OCD said rescue efforts and relief operations continue in hard-hit areas like the Bicol region, which experienced massive flooding and Batangas, where heavy rain caused landslides.&quot;Challenge natin yung pagpapadala by land. It’s either may heavy traffic by land or baha (It has been a challenge to send help by land because either traffic is heavy or there is flooding),” he said.He said government is maximizing sending aid by air, starting with communications equipment and generator sets, followed by rescue teams and rubber boats. This will be to augment resources already in the affected regions)Despite Central Luzon being among the hardest-hit regions, the OCD said the damage there is not as devastating as the scenes from Bicol.&quot;But it’s not to say na hindi siya malakas. Pero yung epekto at damages sa north ngayon it’s not as bad dito sa Bicol Region, Sa Region 8 at saka sa CALABARZON,&quot; Posadas said.(Which is not to say the storm was weaker here, but the effect and damage in the north is not as bad as in the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas and CALABARZON)The OCD said they are working with state weather bureau PAGASA and other agencies on better coordination and information dissemination on storms,.“It all boils down to planning, it all boils down to coordination, being provided with the facts,&quot; Posadas said, adding the governments needs to help the public better understand hazards they may be facing.A total of 158 cities and municipalities have been placed under a state of calamity, mostly from the Bicol region and CALABARZON.The NDRRMC said the estimated cost of damage to infrastructure has reached P825,130,698 and damage to agriculture has hit P1,432,229,305.<div>IMPACT ON AIRPORTS, SEAPORTS</div>The Philippine Ports Authority said the number of stranded passengers is down to 180 following the resumption of trips.&quot;Merong ilang mga stranded sa Bicol at meron ding ilang mga stranded pa … meron pa ring mga hindi bumibiyahe for example sa Palawan, Negros Occidental saka sa Bacolod at sa Zamboanga,&quot; PPA spokesperson Eunice Samonte told Teleradyo Serbisyo.(There are some still stranded in Bicol and there are some areas, like in Palawan, Negros Oriental, Bacolod City and Zamboanga City where sea voyages have yet to resume)She said the PPA has provided hot meals and assistance to stranded passengers and is coordinating with the Department of Social Welfare and Development on contingency measures for similar instances in the future.She said the PPA is asking the DSWD to pre-position food packs at ports in anticipation of passengers being stranded by bad weather.Samonte said sea trips have been operating despite damage to ports, particularly in Batangas and Mindoro provinces.PPA expects 1.6 million passengers to troop to ports for the Undas weekend and is preparing to deploy more personnel to accommodate the possible influx.Meanwhile, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said there are no more reports of stranded passengers in airports, especially in affected areas.CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said airports had put navigational equipment in storage to lessen flight disruptions, adding damage to airports had been “very minimal.”&quot;Meron pang natitirang mga cancelled flights pero airline issue na. Recovery flights tuloy-tuloy naman at saka regular flights,&quot; he added.(There are still some cancelled flights, but those are on the airlines’ side. Recovery and regular flights are ongoing)CAAP said they have been on heightened alert since October 25 and will augment the number of employees on duty, especially at check-in counters as they expect an influx of passengers during the Undas weekend.
