Making a rare public appearance, former President Rodrigo Duterte attended a Senate Blue Ribbon Committee probe on his administration’s war on drugs on October 28, 2024.The hearing was attended by the former chief executive along with his allies, former Executive Secretary Salvador Panelo, Senators Bong Go and Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa, who was the chief implementer of Duterte’s war on drugs.The hearing discussed issues of extrajudicial killings, similar to the alleged modus operandi of the Death Squad in Duterte’s hometown, Davao City.Duterte defended his war against illegal drugs, stating that he did it to protect the innocent by stopping the drug menace. “My mandate as President of the Republic was to protect the country and the Filipino people. Do not question my policies because I offer no apologies nor excuses. I did what I had to do,&quot; he said.“My job as President was never easy... I have tried to do the best I can to address the problem of illegal drugs firmly and without compromises.
