Sabi nga nila, lalo na sa Pilipinas, walang permanent friends, only permanent interest,” explained Ela Atienza.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/8/comelec-ends-8-day-application-period-for-wannabe-candidates-in-2025-051https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/8/comelec-ends-8-day-application-period-for-wannabe-candidates-in-2025-051" id="isPasted">A rush of wannabe candidates as filing period ends</a></div><p>Atienza also noted that after the filing of Certificate of Candidacy, especially in the local governments in the National Capital Region, many familiar names surfaced. Most of the aspirants came from the same political families that are holding on to their positions in government, she said. </p><p>“Within Metro Manila, ang makikita pa rin natin na nag-file pa rin ay yung kasamihan ay incumbent. Tapos makikita natin na yung mga pami-pamilya rin -- &#x27;yung mga political families ay hindi pa rin nawawala sa iba-ibang lugar. Makikita natin na ito ang marka o characteristic ng election sa Pilipinas na napakahina ng political parties,” Atienza said. </p><p>This is unlike in other countries such as the United States, said Atienza, where politicians can be distinguished based on their ideologies and programs. </p><p>“Napakadaling magtayo ng mga political groups - kasi  wala tayong pagbabawal sa mga turncoats - wala tayong batas na ibinabawal na maging balimbing. So yung mga dating magkaksama, puwede silang ngayon ay magkakalaban. Minsan magkakamag-anak sila rin ang naglalaban,” according to Atienza. </p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/10/8/apollo-quiboloy-files-candidacy-for-senator-1404" id="isPasted">Apollo Quiboloy, detained KOJC founder, files candidacy for senator</a></div><p>Therefore, the voting public should learn from the history of the Philippine politics and that they should look into the programs and credibility of every aspirant. The public should not base their decision on personalities, she added. </p><p>“Hindi kasi natin alam kung ang basehan ng mga tao ay yung serbisyo ba o programa ng dalwang kandidato o personalidad, kasi minsan yan ang issue natin sa pulitika sa Pilipinas. Napapako tayo sa mga personalities kung sino yung sikat, sino yung may pangalan, sila ang nahahalal - san anag basehan ng mga tayo ay yung sebrisyo at mga programa nung mga administrasyon,” according to Atienza. </p><p>The right to suffrage of every Filipino is not just the right to vote every election but also include the right to have choices on who to vote.   </p><p>“Bahagi ng demokrasyya ay hindi lang dahil nakakaboto ang mga tao, ginusto nilang iboto kundi karapatan din nilang meron silang choices.
