Handout/DOST-PAGASAMANILA (UPDATED) -- Severe tropical storm Nika continued to move west northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Aurora late Sunday as more parts of Luzon were placed under Signal No. 3.

PAGASA said wind signal no. 3 is now raised over the following areas: 

-- Isabela

-- The northern portion of Nueva Vizcaya (Diadi, Bagabag, Quezon, Solano, Villaverde, Kasibu, Ambaguio, Bayombong) 

-- The northern portion of Quirino (Diffun, Cabarroguis, Aglipay, Maddela, Saguday)

-- Mountain Province

-- Ifugao

-- The northern portion of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan)

Under Wind Signal No. 2 is a large part of northern and Central Luzon:

Nika was last spotted at 10 p.m. at 265 km East of Baler, Aurora with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 135 km/h.

It is moving West northwestward at 15 km/h with strong to storm-force winds extending outwards up to 340 km from the center.

PAGASA said Nika is expected to move generally west northwestward and may make landfall over Isabela or northern Aurora on Monday morning or early afternoon. 

The disturbance may reach typhoon category within the next 12 hours and may reach its peak intensity of around 130 km/h prior to landfall.

It is expected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Tuesday afternoon.
