Joel Chua disputed on Friday the claim of Vice President Sara Duterte that she was invited only once to the House panel inquiry into the alleged misuse of confidential funds at the OVP and the Department of Education under her leadership.Chua said Duterte was invited to both the first and second hearings, held on September 18 and 25.“Well, actually, in-invite siya ng first at saka second hearing. Doon sa first hearing… um-attend siya, pero ayaw naman niyang mag-take ng oath. Tapos nagpa-excuse siya. Ni-respeto naman natin siya bilang pangalawang pinakamataas na opisyal ng ating bansa. Doon naman sa pangalawang hearing, hindi naman po siya um-attend. So ‘yung third hanggang fifth hearing, hindi na po namin siya in-invite para bilang respeto sa kanya. Subalit… doon sa Senate hearing, sinabi niya na hindi siya na-invite. Kaya binigyan, in-extend ulit namin ‘yung invitation sa kanya,” he said.Duterte, who showed up at the House Quad Comm hearing attended by his father on Wednesday, was handed invitation for the November 20 hearing of Chua’s committee on her office’s confidential expenses.The Vice President said her office plans to send an affidavit about its confidential expenses to the House panel, noting that when she attended its first hearing, congressmen did not ask her any question.Chua explained that it was due to Duterte’s refusal to take an oath to tell the truth.“Hindi siya nag-oath eh… Kasi under sa rules namin dapat lahat ng mga tatanungin ay magte-take ng oath. Subalit, hindi naman siya nag-oath. So, sa aming paniniwala, wala rin namang magiging saysay kung ano ‘yung sasabihin niya kung hindi naman siya magte-take ng oath,” he said.“Nasa kanya naman po ‘yan. I-e-extend natin lahat ng courtesy bilang pangalawang pangulo ng ating bansa… Kung anuman ‘yung kanyang isu-sumite, pag-aaralan namin at babasahin namin. Kaya lang ang kagandahan kasi kapag kayo ay uma-attend, pwede kayong matanong para ma-clarify ‘yung mga statement,” Chua added.
