MANILA — The LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1 was officially unveiled to the public early Saturday morning, marking a new chapter in Metro Manila's public transport.

Passengers at the Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX) LRT-1 Station were serenaded by a choir as they entered the station as a show of welcome.

One of the first passengers to alight at the PITX-LRT 1 station from Pasay City was 23-year-old Richard Garcia. According to him, the new extension is a great help in his daily commute to work.

“Napakalaking tulong po nito sa amin kasi mas napapadali po ‘yong pagsakay namin. Dati po kasi mas napapalayo pa po kami e. Malayo pa ‘yong sinasakyan namin,” he said.

Foreman Clemer Solis, 44, expressed his joy over the LRT extension’s opening, sharing that he now saves about 50 pesos a day, a welcome addition to his family’s budget.

“Saglit lang po. Wala pang five minutes nandito na po ako. Dati matagal. Umaabot ako ng isang oras po,” Solis said

Meanwhile, the management of PITX was also delighted with the successful opening of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension Phase 1.

“Malaking tulong ito lalo na sa mga estudyante natin araw-araw. ‘Yong iba kasi coming from Cavite tapos pupunta ng Manila for their universities. Marami ring mga senior citizen na first time magta-travel coming from Manila to south,” said Kolyn Calbasa, Senior Corporate Affairs Officer of PITX.

“We are prepared naman to cater ‘yong pagdagdag pa ng mga pasahero coming from LRT-1 dahil ine-expect naman natin ‘yan lalo na ngayong December. Nagdagdag rin tayo ng mga waiting areas around the terminal,” she added.

The new extension now links Baclaran Station in Pasay City to Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque City, with five newly opened stations along the way:

 - Redemptorist-ASEANA Station
 - MIA Road Station
 - PITX Station
 - Ninoy Aquino Avenue Station
 - Dr. Santos (formerly Sucat) Station
