Certainly the Indonesians and the Filipinos have been talking about this for some time and we hope that we’ll come out with a solution, mutually agreed solution, which will be to the utmost benefit of Ms Veloso and her family,” said De Vega.</p><p>“We’re also hopeful that we can announce something positive soon,” De Vega added.</p><p>Veloso was arrested by the Indonesian police at the Yogyakarta’s Adisutjipto Airport on April 25, 2010 for allegedly smuggling 2.6 kilograms of heroin in her luggage. </p><div><a class="fr-strong fr-green" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/8/8/fil-canadian-group-calls-to-free-filipina-on-death-row-in-indonesia-2150">• Fil-Canadian group ramps up calls to free Filipina on death row in Indonesia</a></div><p>She was convicted for drug trafficking and sentenced to death. </p><p>The verdict was upheld by the Indonesian Supreme Court in 2015, but Veloso was given a last-minute reprieve when the Philippine government informed Indonesia that the recruiters who duped her into smuggling the drugs had surrendered.</p><p>Indonesian media quoted Indonesia’s Coordinating Law, Human Rights, Immigration and Corrections Minister Yusril Ihza Mahendra as saying that they “discussed this issue internally and also with President Prabowo [Subianto].”</p><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO:</strong></div><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/wIdJEF3nCl4?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><br/></div>
