It was a murder that shocked the community.

In September of 2004, Filipino-American Sharon Santos went missing after her usual job as an analyst for Warner Brothers in Burbank, California. She was later found dead in the trunk of her car that was found in Chinatown.

Since then, for the past 20 years, her friends and family would gather on her birthday to celebrate her life and to continue to call for justice.

"Her presence is woven into the soundtrack of our lives," said Santos' sister Sandra. "When we hear it, it reminds us of who she was—adventurous, free-spirited, full of life. That was Sharon."

On the 20th anniversary of Santos’ murder, the family gathered on what would have been Santos’ 51st birthday to call on investigators to reopen the case and launch the “SHARE” initiative.

While SHARE was Santos’ nickname, it also stands for Support, Honor, Advocate, Raise Awareness, Engage.

The late Fil-Am's friends and family have also launched the Justice for Sharon Santos social media pages in hopes of sharing her story.

"For 20 years, we’ve waited for answers, for accountability,  for justice," Sandra said. "We know that the time to act is now."

Friends and family are hopeful that advances in technology can help crack the case.

"We’ve been working to reignite media attention on Sharon’s case and the push for a renewed investigation," said Nina Haynes, a family friend. "The more people who hear her story, the more pressure we can put on those who can make a difference."

Sandra said they have been in touch with Burbank police, who have told them that they will re-evaluate the case.

Despite the assurance, the victim’s sister believes the community calls and raising awareness can pressure investigators to actively and aggressively do more than re-evaluate the case and prioritize finally solving it.
