Francel Margareth Padilla said the Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT) between Manila and Washington, which was signed in 1951, and its implementation will continue regardless of who won the US presidential election.</p><p>“In terms of the AFP and our multilateral and bilateral treaties with the US, sila po ay a very long time ally ng ating bansa. Nakita rin po natin na dahil mahabang panahon na ang samahan natin with the US in terms of our treaties, kahit naman nagpalit ng mga presidente, because these are locked in stone, itong treaties natin, tuluy-tuloy lang ang activities natin with them,” Padilla said in a televised briefing on Thursday.</p><p>“They honor naman din ang mga pinirmahan at nilagdaang treaties together. Through the years, we have been actively performing Balikatan exercises.
