Tropical Depression Nika was last seen at 1,255 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon. DOST PAGASA HIMAWARI.MANILA — The low pressure area that entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) on early Saturday is now a tropical depression and is called Nika.

In its 11 a.m. bulletin, Pagasa said Nika was 1,145 kilometers east of Southeastern Luzon, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour near the center and gusts up to 70 kph.

The tropical depression is moving westward at 30 kph.

Wind signal No. 1 is now raised in Catanduanes.

The disturbance may intensify to severe tropical storm strength before making landfall over Isabela or Aurora on Monday, November 11.

It will then cross Northern Luzon and may exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.

The state weather bureau is also monitoring another LPA outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility. It was last seen at 2,710 kilometers east of Northeastern Mindanao.

Pagasa said it has a medium chance of developing to a tropical depression within the next 24 hours. — with Ched Rick Gatchalian, ABS-CBN News
