MANILA — National Police Commission (Napolcom) officials on Thursday met with a panel of Department of Justice (DOJ) prosecutors in the continuing probe into cops' alleged involvement in the P6.7 billion drug haul, considered the biggest in the country.

In a closed door investigation, the Napolcom officials faced the DOJ prosecutors on the additional complaint that they filed regarding the seizure of 990 kilograms of shabu in an anti-illegal drugs operation in 2022.

“Once the case build-up is completed, the preliminary investigation will commence immediately to det ermine whether a probable cause exists to warrant the filing of charges against those involved in the alleged anomalies,” the DOJ said in a statement.

In an inquiry at the House of Representatives last year, it was found that former Philippine National Police officer Rodolfo Mayo was excluded from the spot report in an alleged cover-up.

The PNP has also removed the head of its Drug Enforcement Group, Narciso Domingo, over his alleged involvement in the cover up.

Last year, the Department of the Interior and Local Government said 50 policemen, including two generals, are facing criminal complaints before the Office of the Ombudsman over the shabu haul.
