Local authorities have suspended trekking activities at Tarak Ridge in Mariveles, Bataan province after a man in his late 30s fell off a cliff around 10 p.m. Thursday.

Marty Tañagras of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of Alasasin village said rescue efforts are still ongoing as of Friday night as responders are having a hard time to lift the victim.

“Kailangan kasi, sir, natin do’n chopper – chopper talaga ang [kailangan na] kasi malalim. Hindi na puwedeng galawin ‘yong katawan niya, may mga parteng na-fracture,” he told ABS-CBN News in a telephone interview.

Tañagras said the man is a native of Tarak Ridge and is also working as a tourist guide.

He was about to catch a fish when the incident happened.

“May part sila na tatawirin para makatuloy sila sa [panghuhuli ng isda], umakyat siya do’n sa Palanas. Ngayon, sabi ng mga kasama, may tinaga daw na isang ugat, pagka-putol no’n, bumagsak na siya,” Tanagras said, based on the accounts of the man’s companions.
