DOJ assures 'airtight case' vs officials tagged in 'biggest PH drug haul'

<p>MANILA — The Department of Justice (DOJ) has assured the public of swift administration of justice in the 990-kilogram shabu drug bust involving former police officer Rodolfo Mayo.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/06/13/23/50-cops-including-2-generals-face-raps-in-biggest-drug-haul">50 cops, including 2 generals face raps in &#x27;biggest drug haul&#x27;</a></div><p>Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla made the assurance after the clarificatory meeting between a panel of prosecutors and officials of the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group.</p><p>The controversial P6.7 billion drug bust in Manila in 2022 led to the arrest of then Master Sgt. Rodolfo Mayo.</p><p>Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos had dubbed the seizure as &quot;probably the biggest drug haul in the history of the Philippines.&quot;</p><p>There was also a supposed cover-up led by PNP officials, which was one of the issues tackled during the investigation of the Senate last year.</p><p>“The discussion mainly focused on coming up with a concrete, credible, and airtight case against dishonest individuals linked to anomalous acts during the anti-illegal drugs operation, where former Police Master Sergeant Rodolfo Mayo Jr. was arrested for his involvement in the drug haul,” Remulla said in a statement.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/11/15/23/house-panel-seeks-raps-vs-cops-over-p67-b-shabu-haul">House panel seeks raps vs cops over controversial P6.7-B shabu haul</a></div><p>Remulla ordered the panel to work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure that all pieces of evidence would be considered.</p><p>&quot;As the prosecution arm of the government, it is but imperative that we uphold the Rule of Law in the most efficient and expeditious way and at the same time within the bounds of truth, fairness and justice,” Remulla said.</p>
