Online extortionist apprehended for blackmail, voyeurism in Cebu
Operatives from the Regional Anti-Cybercrime Unit in Region 7 apprehended a 25-year-old man in an entrapment operation for blackmailing his victim in Cebu City on February 24, 2024.
The victim lodged a complaint against the suspect after a certain "Therese Cañete" on Facebook disseminated her nude photos to friends on social media. The suspect threatened to share more photos unless the victim paid him P15,000.
During the entrapment operation, the police seized the suspect's cellphone along with the money used for the operation.
The suspect faces charges for violating Art. 294 of the Revised Penal Code (Robbery Extortion), Republic Act 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Children), and Republic Act 9995 (Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act of 2009).
