Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News.</figcaption></figure>MANILA - The Office of Transportation Cooperatives (OTC), an attached agency of the Department of Transportation, believes that issues regarding road discipline will be addressed by the PUV modernization programs.This comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. called out public utility drivers who have been used to disregarding traffic rules, saying driving etiquette in the Philippines should be modernized alongside the government’s push to upgrade traditional jeepneys.“Higit pa sa pagbabago at pagmoderno ng mga pampublikong sasakyan, kailangan na rin nating iwanan ang lumang pag uugali sa kalye,” the President said in a vlog.<ul><li><a data-cke-saved-href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/2/25/marcos-jr-calls-out-lack-of-discipline-in-ph-roads-2110" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/2/25/marcos-jr-calls-out-lack-of-discipline-in-ph-roads-2110">Marcos Jr. calls out lack of discipline in PH roads</a></li></ul><div> </div>OTC Chairman Andy Ortega told ABS-CBN News that the president&#x27;s concern regarding discipline and etiquette is part of the modernization program.“Yung disiplina sa kalye o kaya yung reliable yung biyahe, lahat yan kasama sa programa ng PUV-MP… &#x27;Yung systematic dispatching, yung pagdidisiplina ng ating mga drivers, parte yan ng programa. Wala na tayong boundary system, magiging arawan na ang suweldo ng ating mga drivers, so wala na yang unahan,” Ortega said.   According to Ortega, as of the latest, total consolidation of public utility jeepneys nationwide reached 80 percent. This could reached up to 80 percent by April 30 deadline given by the president.Meanwhile, some PUJ drivers also stressed that they should not be solely blamed for the issues raised by Marcos Jr.   “Hindi lang driver pati rin pasahero, kasi yung pasahero magagalit pag lumagpas konti, pag sinabi nilang para gusto nila baba kagad, nandiya ka sa gitna eh,” according to jeepney driver Edwin Abiero.   “May mga tao talaga na medyo makitid yung pag-intindi. Kagaya naming pampublikong sasaskyan, ‘tas nagdadampot lang kami ng pasahero may mga kotse nakabuntot samin binubusinahan na kami ng todo. Kung overtake yan, pipinahan pa kami niyan,” another driver Ronald Jabas told ABS-CBN News.   According to Engr. Rene Santiago, a transportation expert, there are other ways to instill discipline.   “Dahil sa boundary system nila, naghahabol bawat jeepney. Kalaban niya yung another jeepney, one is on a survival mode,” Santiago said.   “Ang concept nung consolidation, dapat merong isang in-charge sa fleet management dispatching. Para yung takbo ng jeep, controlled.
