Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan has declared half-day classes in all levels for both public and private schools and half-day work for city government employees on Holy Wednesday, March 27.

A Manila Public Information Office Facebook post said the mayor signed Executive Order No. 8 to provide students and city government employees the opportunity to observe Semana Santa with their loved ones.

Malacañang on Monday issued a memo declaring half-day work in government offices on March 27, Wednesday.

Memorandum Circular No. 45, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, said the suspension, from 12 noon onwards, is to provide government employees to “properly observe Maundy Thursday and Good Friday” and “to allow them to travel to and from the different regions in the country”.

The suspension, however, does not include agencies whose functions involve delivery of basic and health services, preparedness/response to disaster and calamities, and the performance of vital services.

Work in private companies and offices is left to the discretion of employers, the circular added.

Filipinos are expected to travel to provinces in observance of Holy Week.
