MANILA — The University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) has launched a scholarship program with SM Prime Holdings.

The scholarship aims to support financially struggling students with stellar academic performance, said Associate Professor Janette Malata-Silva, UPLB vice-chancellor.

Malata-Silva said 10 college students from BS Forestry and BS Human Ecology programs were chosen as beneficiaries of the scholarship.

They will each receive a P3,500 monthly allowance and a P2,500 semestral book allowance for 4 years.

Malata-Silva said the program would also shoulder the tuition of scholars who need to extend their stay at the university, which is no longer covered by the government's free tuition policy.

"Kung ang iyong kurso ay 4 na taon, bibigyan ka pa ng additional na isa pa. So 5 taon 'yung coverage kung 4 years ang iyong program," she said.
