<div><span dir="ltr" id="isPasted"></span></div><div><span dir="ltr" id="isPasted"></span></div><p>After the successful rotation and resupply mission (RoRe) to the Ayungin shoal in February, tension once again erupted in the West Philippine Sea between the Philippine Coast Guard and the Chinese Coast Guard together with the Chinese maritime militia on March 5, 2024.</p><p>Chinese Coast Guard vessels fired water cannon at the resupply boat Unaizah on May 4 at around 8 a.m. which lasted for seven minutes, according to the Philippine Coast Guard.</p><p>Due to the impact, the resupply boat&#x27;s windshield was damaged and caused slight injuries to four crew members of the Unaizah May 4.</p><div><br/></div><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/3/5/philippines-demands-chinese-vessels-leave-ayungin-shoal-area-1752">Philippines demands Chinese vessels leave Ayungin Shoal area</a></div><div><span dir="ltr" id="isPasted"></span></div><div><br/></div><p>After firing the water cannon, the Chinese vessels then blocked the resupply boat several times.</p><p>Because of the damage and injury to personnel, the crew decided to abort the mission and proceed back to Palawan, escorted by the BRP Sindangan.</p><p>But despite the persistent blocking, the Unaizah May 1, which was carrying supplies for the BRP Sierra Madre reached its destination, according to the Coast Guard.</p><p>At around 1 a.m. on Tuesday, Unaizah May 1 was reunited with its escort vessel BRP Cabra and headed back to mainland Palawan.</p><p>The China Coast Guard (CCG) and China maritime militia (CMM) started to shadow the Philippine vessels at early dawn on Tuesday.</p><p>As early as 6 a.m. the CCG and CMM started to block and harass the PCG vessels and resupply boats.</p><div><br/></div><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/3/6/china-says-its-coast-guard-was-restrained-in-clash-with-philippine-ships-1832">China says its coast guard was ‘restrained’ in clash with Philippine ships</a></div><div><span dir="ltr" id="isPasted"></span></div><div><br/></div><p>A Chinese Coast Guard vessel eventually collided with the BRP Sindangan, one of the PCG vessels tasked to escort the resupply boat, causing damage to the hull of the vessel.</p><p>Commodore Jay Tarriela, the spokesperson on West Philippine Sea affairs said, despite the harassment, the mission was still successful. </p><p>“The mere fact that we’re able to deliver the supply to our troops, it’s always a success,” he said.</p><p>The PCG recorded 5 Chinese Coast Guard vessels, 18 maritime militia vessels and 2 Peoples Liberation Army Navy vessels during their mission.</p><p>For the first time, a US navy vessel was also seen, but Commodore Tarriela said, the Philippine government has no coordination with the said vessel.</p><div></div>
