Handout/NGCP</figcaption></figure></div>MANILA -- One of the recurring challenges faced during calamities is the widespread occurrence of power outages, often stemming from the destruction or impairment of electricity poles and transmission lines. This disruption in the infrastructure can severely impact communities, leading to prolonged periods without electricity and hindering essential services and communication networks. But, despite heavy rain or intense heat, linemen always come to the rescue. Their work is life-threatening, but they ensure they&#x27;re ready for it. At the Linemen Rodeo in Laguna, they showed their skills in various exhibitions, such as conductor riding relay, steel pole erection, steel pole dressing and undressing, knot tying and rope splicing, drone exhibition, ERS erection and dressing, and hurt man pole top rescue. According to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), the aim of the activity is to demonstrate the ability of linemen to ensure continuous public service. &quot;The primary objective and benefit of this program is to recognize and hard work and dedication of our linemen and also the contribution to the growth of the power transmission system. It is also an event where there is sharing of good practices and it is also an opportunity for our linemen to enhance their skills,&quot; said Engr. Handout/NGCP</figcaption></figure></div>NGCP ensures that their linemen and other staff are always ready to ensure the public has electricity supply, especially during calamities. “Kahit gaano kainit ang panahon, kahit may flooding, kahit may soil scouring, nandoon lang po ang mga linemen natin,” said Engr. Cesar Sanchez, Vice President for Operations and Maintenance. (“No matter how hot the weather is, no matter if there&#x27;s flooding, no matter if there&#x27;s soil scouring, our linemen are always there.” To help avoid power supply loss, NGCP reminds the public of prohibited activities near power poles under Republic Act 11361 or Anti-Obstruction of Power Lines, such as planting tall plants, constructing houses and other structures, burning of garbage and other material, blocking NGCP personnel conducting repairs or inspections, and flying kites.
