DPWH-NCR director Engr. Loreta Malaluan told ABS-CBN News that 2 of the 3 lanes of the flyover will be closed to private motorists for about 6 months and only the bus way will be open while the project is ongoing.

“Ang actual partial closure natin ay magsisimula sa May 1st. Ngayon ang isasara natin ay yung 2 lanes bale ang matitira lang ay yung portion ng bus carousel o bus lane. Mas maganda na yung mga buses lang ang padaanin, kasi alam mo naman yung iba nating drivers ‘pag may nakitang puwede pa nilang lusutan, magkakan-kanyang lusot yan that can cause more traffic and sakuna dun sa ating mga motorista,” Malaluan said.

Malaluan said the actual total contract price of the project is only P142.8 million.

She explained that this retrofitting is part of the recommendations by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to make critical structures in the Metropolis ready for a strong earthquake or “The Big One”.

Malaluan admits this will cause traffic in the area but assures the public that there are enough signages to guide affected motorists.

Sa ngayon, pagplanuhan na po natin yung ating travel along EDSA,” Malaluan explained.

“Nag-umpisa na po kami sa pag-clearing operations nito…with the closure of the Kamuning flyover, magdadagdag po tayo ng additional manpower to ensure that the traffic management is managed properly and itong mga alternare routes natin definitely maglalagay po tayo ng mga enforcers natin,” Go told ABS-CBN News.
“Nag-umpisa na po kami sa pag-clearing operations nito…with the closure of the Kamuning flyover, magdadagdag po tayo ng additional manpower to ensure that the traffic management is managed properly and itong mga alternare routes natin definitely maglalagay po tayo ng mga enforcers natin,” Go told ABS-CBN News.
According to Go, the MMDA will deploy additional traffic enforcers in the area to manage the traffic situation together with the help of traffic personnel from the Quezon City LGU.
