<p>MANILA (<strong>UPDATE</strong>) — Sen. Grace Poe on Monday told the managements of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the Iloilo International Airport to fix their air conditioning systems, as the country continues to experience record heat this dry season.  </p><p>Poe, chair of the Senate Committee on Public Services, also urged the airports to fix their broken elevators, which she said were causing inconvenience to passengers. </p><p>The Manila International Airport Authority said that repairs were ongoing as of Sunday. </p><p>&quot;Sa bawat airport, gusto nating bigyan ng warm welcome ang bawat biyahero. Naging literal naman yata ang &#x27;warm&#x27; sa NAIA at Iloilo airport dahil parang pugon daw sa init ang loob nito dahil sa sirang aircon,&quot; Poe said in a statement.  </p><p>(We want each airport to give travelers a warm welcome. The 2 airports however literally felt warm to passengers because of the defective airconditioning.) </p><p>Poe said she wants to know how the P190 million set aside in the 2024 budget is being used for the Iloilo Airport&#x27;s repairs and maintenance. </p><p>&quot;As the hot weather continues to scorch us, we want to remind all the country&#x27;s airports to beef up the maintenance of aircon, electricity, and similar facilities to avert breakdowns and accidents,&quot; she said.</p><p>&quot;Like our dream for all the country&#x27;s gateways, we want to make the Iloilo airport a world-class facility, offering comfort, convenience, and cutting-edge services to passengers,&quot; Poe said.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/4/28/heat-index-remains-at-dangerous-levels-in-several-areas-of-ph-2320">READ: Heat index remains at dangerous levels in several areas of PH</a></div><p>Meanwhile, Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri said he will file a resolution seeking an inquiry on the issue in the coming days.  </p><p>&quot;There must be some sort of you know, transparency, accountability, pagdating dito sa mga airports natin. Siguro I don&#x27;t want to say incompetent ang mga officials but they have to work double time,&quot; he said.  </p><p>Zubiri mentioned an escalator he personally saw that has been broken for months. Recently, the cooling system was reported to be under repair.  </p><p>&quot;And now I heard the aircon is broken. I mean, my goodness. These are simple engineering feats na kaya po na i-outsource ng NAIA (that NAIA can outsource),&quot; he added.  </p><p>Zubiri&#x27;s suggestion to NAIA officials is to transfer the management of the airport to the private sector. </p><p>In February of this year, the San Miguel consortium won the bidding for NAIA&#x27;s rehabilitation project.  </p><p>&quot;At the very least they should be sanctioned, they should be called out and warned. But the sooner that they give it to the private sector, the better,&quot; he said.</p><p>Zubiri said a similar problem in Cagayan De Oro exists since the airport has still not been turned over to the Aboitiz Group.  </p><p>&quot;What is the cause for all this delay?
