MANILA — A 47-year old resident of Brick Township in New Jersey turned himself in to authorities last Wednesday in connection with the fatal motor vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a Filipino Olympic swimmer in Lakewood on March 7, 2025.

Ocean County authorities said Brian Baldari was driving his Cadillac CT5 Blackwing at a speed of approximately 103 miles per hour in the wrong direction down Route 70 in Lakewood for two miles before colliding head-on with 66-year-old Edwin Borja’s vehicle and striking other vehicles in March.

Borja was a member of the Philippine Olympic Swim Team for the 1972 Munich and 1976 Montreal Olympics.

While the drivers of other involved vehicles were unharmed, Borja died after succumbing to his injuries on March 18 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune. He was laid to rest in late March.

Baldari, meanwhile, was treated immediately after the crash and released.

Upon turning himself in to the Lakewood Township Police Headquarters earlier this week, he was transported to the Ocean County Jail where he is presently lodged pending a detention hearing.

Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said Baldari faces aggravated manslaughter, vehicular homicide, and assault by auto charges.
