Pantaleon Alvarez over alleged “disorderly behavior” and “violations of the code of conduct&quot; of the chamber.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/5/3/alvarez-to-submit-to-house-ethics-committee-judgment-1657">• Alvarez to &#x27;submit&#x27; to House ethics committee judgment</a></div><p>Alvarez attended the hearing and faced off with complainant Tagum City Mayor Rey Uy.</p><p>Uy alleged that Alvarez committed “continuous absences” from the House of Representatives, but this was dismissed by the House panel due to “lack of evidence”.</p><p>“For the continuous absences, the members resolved today that we are going dismiss that because of lack of evidence. Kasi ang ebidensya lang naman nila doon is the statement of one of our colleagues here na nananawagan na mag-duty siya rito sa Congress. Hindi naman lahat ng trabaho ng isang representative is andito ang presence all the time,&quot; he added.</p><p>The panel, however, will proceed with investigating the two other allegations against Alvarez. </p><p>Uy claimed that the former House Speaker made “libelous” statements against local officials, and “seditious” remarks, after Alvarez urged the Armed Forces of the Philippines to withdraw support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in a rally in Tagum City last month.</p><p>According to Espares, Alvarez defended his statements before the panel, saying they were covered by free speech. </p><p>In a previous statement, Alvarez also denied that his remarks at the rally were “seditious”, “inciting to sedition”, or a form of “rebellion”.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/4/16/politics-free-speech-clash-after-alvarez-call-for-afp-to-abandon-marcos-1509">• Politics, free speech clash after Alvarez call for AFP to abandon Marcos</a></div><p>Uy said they are seeking the expulsion of Alvarez from the House of Representatives.  </p><p>“‘Yung sa complaint namin, for his expulsion. Because that’s too much. ‘Wag nating gagawin ‘yong freedom of expression na maski ano na lang ang i-sabi natin sa mga kapwa nating mga official.
