DILG to probe further into Bamban Mayor Guo's personal background

MANILA -- The Department of Interior and Local Government will dig further into the case of Bamban Mayor Alice Guo, especially after a Senate hearing raised suspicions on her background. 

Juan Victor Llamas, DILG Undersecretary for external, legal and legislative affairs, said that their recommendation for Guo's preventive suspension had been based on their investigation of her alleged links to the illegal POGO operations in her town.

The DILG submitted its recommendation to the Office of the Ombudsman last week.

But Llamas said that it is a continuing investigation, especially after the Bamban Mayor failed to answer the Senate on questions about basic personal details -- including her birthplace and where she graduated from high school. 

“Lately lang lumalabas ang issue tungkol sa citizenship niya,” he said in a TeleRadyo interview on Sunday evening. 

“Dahil diyan inutos din ni Sec. [Benhur] Abalos doon sa task force to continue further investigation on the citizenship of Mayor Guo. Dahil d'yan, nakikipag-coordinate na rin kami sa iba't ibang ahensya para makalakap ng mga impormasyon o dokumento,” he added. 

'Inconsistencies' flagged in Alice Guo's background  

“Ito ay minamadali na rin ng aming secretary… we are doing our best na matapos kaagad sa lalong madaling panahon.” 

Llamas said they were able to collect enough information regarding Guo role in the illegal POGO operations which bolstered their recommendation for her suspension. 

“Sersyoso at matibay ang nakikita naming ebidensya na nalalakap namin… 'Pag siya ay nababaan ng preventive suspension automatic ‘yan we will implement ‘yung preventive suspension para temporarily na mawala siya sa pwesto at yung vice mayor nila ang magiging active doon,” he said.
