Aghon makes 9th landfall, intensifies into severe tropical storm

MANILA - Aghon further intensified into a severe tropical storm as it made its 9th landfall over Patnanongan, Quezon.

Aghon now packs winds of 100 kph with gusts up to 150 kph and is moving northeastward slowly.

Tropical cyclone wind signal No. 3 remains raised over Polillo Islands. Signal No. 2 is still in effect over 6 provinces while Metro Manila and 15 other areas remain under Signal No. 1

Aghon may intensify into a typhoon by Monday afternoon over the Philippine Sea east of Northern Luzon and will continue its northeastward track until it exits the Philippine area of responsibility on Wednesday afternoon.

Signal no. 2 meanwhile remains hoisted over Aurora, the northern and central portions of Quezon (Alabat, Perez, Quezon, Gumaca, Lopez, Macalelon, General Luna, Unisan, Pitogo, Plaridel, Agdangan, Padre Burgos, Atimonan, General Nakar, Sampaloc, Pagbilao, Calauag, Lucban, City of Tayabas, Lucena City, Tiaong, Candelaria, Sariaya, Dolores, San Antonio, Infanta, Real, Mauban), Laguna, the eastern portion of Batangas (City of Tanauan, San Jose, Lipa City, Mataasnakahoy, Balete, Malvar, Santo Tomas, Cuenca, Ibaan, Padre Garcia, Rosario, San Juan, Taysan), the eastern portion of Rizal (Jala-Jala, Pililla, Tanay, Cardona, Binangonan, Morong, Baras, Rodriguez, City of Antipolo, Teresa), and the northern portion of Camarines Norte (Santa Elena, Capalonga)

HEAVY RAINFALL

PAGASA warned that heavy rainfall of up to 200 millimeters may be expected Sunday evening to Monday evening in Quezon province.

Between 100-200 mm: of rain meanwhile may be expected in Aurora, the eastern portion of Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Metro Manila, and Camarines Norte

Between 50-100 mm of rain may be expected in the eastern portion of Isabela, Nueva Ecija, the rest of Bulacan, the eastern portion of Pampanga, Cavite, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Burias Island, the western portion of Camarines Sur, Cuyo Islands, Aklan, and Antique.

"Forecast rainfall are generally higher in elevated or mountainous areas. Under these conditions, flooding and rain-induced landslides are likely especially in areas that are highly or very highly susceptible to these hazards as identified in hazard maps and in localities that experienced considerable amounts of rainfall for the past several days," PAGASA said.

-Homonhon Island, Guiuan, Eastern Samar 11:20 p.m.,

May 25

-Giporlos, Eastern Samar 12:40 a.m.

-Basiao Island, Catbalogan City, Samar 4:00 a.m.
