FilAm professor backs pro-Palestine protest in Columbia University

<div><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/gojtzOePy_0?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe> </div>Even after the New York Police made arrests, pro-Palestine supporters continued to make their voices heard at Columbia University.The protests that have swept across the U.S. demand a ceasefire in Gaza, and for universities to divest from companies that support Israel&#x27;s war efforts.Of the 112 arrests at Columbia, 80 were identified as individuals affiliated with the school while 32 were unaffiliated.Kevin Nadal is a professor and alumnus of Columbia.The president of the Filipino-American National History Society was at the encampment to show solidarity and express support to Fil-Am students who joined the protest.&quot;The students just really just want justice,&quot; he said. &quot;All they want is peace. All they want is to ensure that university funds do not go to further violence, genocide, and the killing of innocent people, especially children.&quot;Nadal said the war in the Middle East should matter to Filipinos and Fil-Ams because of the Philippines&#x27; history with colonizers, Spain, and the U.S.&quot;We need to stand by them because we wished that maybe someone had stood up for us,&quot; he said.Nadal added: &quot;It&#x27;s really important for Filipinos to recognize that while we may not be currently in a place where we are colonized in that traditional way, some might argue that we are still colonized but in different ways.&quot;The Fil-Am professor encouraged students and the community to continue standing up for justice and to play a part in changing history.&quot;To all the students out there across the country whether it&#x27;s down the street at Columbia or in some of the places around the world, I salute you,&quot; he said. &quot;I think you are using your voices.&quot;&quot;You are on the right side of history,&quot; Nadal continued. &quot;Keep on going because we need you in order to make sure that this genocide ends.&quot;As protests on campuses across the nation continue, university officials and protesters - particularly at Columbia University - are firm on their respective grounds.A resolution or even a compromise between students and the university is yet to be seen.
