Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/File"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Students of Pinyahan Elementary School, supervised by their respective teachers, initiate their &#x27;Catch-up Fridays&#x27; program by reading storybooks inside their classrooms on January 12, 2024. <em>Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/File</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) on Tuesday urged the Department of Education (DepEd) to provide supplemental budget to schools for its conduct of end-of-school year activities, such as graduation and moving-up ceremonies.</p><p>This follows DepEd’s instruction to schools to administer those activities in indoor venues. Another option is to adjust the time of the program so that the attendees will not have to bear with the scorching heat.</p><p>“Lalo na ngayon sa tag-init kinakailangan talaga ng climate resilient na venue para doon sa gaganaping graduation,” ACT National Chairperson Vladimer Quetua told ABS-CBN News.</p><p>“Kapag bumalik sa dating school calendar, sa regular na face-to-face, kailangan din natin naman tugunan ang proper ventilation, iyong mga clinic, iyong nurses,” he continued.</p><p>DepEd Undersecretary Michael Poa said schools should make an official request to the department if they need additional funds.</p><p>“School heads may submit an official request to the Central Office, which will be made subject to proper evaluation and availability of funds,” he told ABS-CBN News.</p><p>He also reminded that such school activities should be kept simple but meaningful, without additional costs for learners and parents.</p><p>For its part, the Department of Health lauded the DepEd’s guidelines, citing the need to ensure the welfare of the attendees amid the scorching heat.</p><p>“We fully support that guidelines by the Department of Education.
