<div><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/cxcE28hFHZU?&amp;feature=youtu.be&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe> </div>It was a significant moment for Filipino Daishi Miguel-Tanaka as the Biden administration unveiled expansive federal protection for immigrants in the United States.The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals recipient or &quot;Dreamer&quot; since 2014 was among the guests during the White House announcement of President Joe Biden for legal status and protection to about half a million families.“It was a very historic moment,&quot; Miguel-Tanaka said. &quot;My parents were happy to share those photos on Facebook, and tell all of their friends and families who are in the Philippines and abroad.&quot;Miguel-Tanaka was six years old when he and his parents migrated to the U.S. to join his American grandfather, with plans to get their citizenship soon after.He shared, however, that they failed to get their green cards after his grandfather passed away.As a result, Miguel-Tanaka said his parents were deported back to the Philippines, where they are now retired.As for him, he said: &quot;I am here in the U.S. still pursuing my dream to reform our immigration system.”The Harvard graduate now works at Immigration Hub, a national organization that advocates for fair immigration policies.He acknowledges the long road it took to have the measure.“This is not a wholesale comprehensive fix,&quot; Miguel-Tanaka said. &quot;This is the Biden administration doing what they can within their power, within their legal authority to at least provide some protections to some number of dreamers.”More than 2,500 Filipinos in the U.S. were DACA recipients as of December, according to data from the Migration Policy Institute.Among the 300,000 undocumented Filipinos in the U.S., about 28,000 are eligible to join the DACA program.Thousands more could benefit from Biden&#x27;s new order called &quot;Parole-in-Place&quot; plan.This would speed up the process of providing legal status to undocumented people who are married to U.S. citizens and their children.But Jeri Gonzales Abrams, who runs an immigration law firm with her father and her brother, does have concerns.&quot;This program is not going to be available for another 60 days or more, potentially maybe the end of summer,&quot; she said. &quot;There are a lot of immigration scams where people will promise something to people that is not legally available.”The White House said more details on the protection would be released soon, including the costs and how to determine the validity of marriages.For Miguel-Tanaka, the fight is not yet over.&quot;We&#x27;re just getting started,&quot; he said. &quot;We&#x27;re really excited to have everyone in the U.S. and in the Philippines know that this fight is happening to make sure that our communities have the best access to the American dream that they deserve.”
