MANILA — The Quezon City local government said it is expecting about 150,000 to 200,000 individuals to join this year’s Pride PH Festival March.

The float parade will begin at 3 p.m. which will begin from Tomas Morato Avenue and is expected to reach Quezon Memorial Circle by 6 p.m.

According to Quezon City Traffic and Transport Management Head Dexter Cardenas, 14 floats will join the parade with an estimated 20,000 crowd.

Cardenas told ABS-CBN News that other members of the LGBTQIA+ community will begin their march along Matalino Street and join the bigger crowd from Tomas Morato Avenue going to Quezon Memorial Circle.

“Tatlong areas, yung sa Quezon Memorial Circle as early as 9 o’clock meron ng event d’yan. Matalino Street will be closed to traffic from midnight up to the whole of Saturday and then sa Tomas Morato from Timog to Scout Albano - mga 1 p.m., mag-start yung assembly ng motorcade ng mga floats and participants ng LGBTQIA+ pride parade nila…as early as 3 p.m., expected time of departure nila dun sa area,” Cardenas said.

Aside from the local traffic enforcers of Quezon City government, Cardenas said, there will be augmentation from the Philippine National Police and MMDA to manage the traffic situation in the area.

RETROFITTING OF EDSA-QUEZON AVE FLYOVER

Meanwhile, MMDA acting chairman Atty. Romando Artes said starting tomorrow, June 22, 2024 at 7:00 a.m., buses and trucks will be temporarily bannned from using the U-Turn slots under the EDSA-Quezon Avenue flyover in Quezon City due to the retrofitting of the flyover.

Artes said there are alternative routes for affected motorists to avoid heavy traffic in the area.

He also assured that there will be enough traffic enforcers there to manage the traffic flow.
“Nakikipag-coordinate na po tayo sa LGU…We’ll try to manage as much as possible nitong lugar para yung mga mag-u-u-turn ay hindi naman maabala at makadagdasg sa traffic especially may celebration ng pride month…Konting inconvinience lang naman po ito,” Artes told ABS-CBN News.

Artes said the DPWH is expected to finish its work under the flyover by August 4.
