MANILA — The Nationalist People's Coalition has officially notified Mayor Alice Guo of Bamban, Tarlac of her expulsion from the political party following the decision of its chairman, Vicente Sotto III, to officially cut ties with her.

Guo, who has been summoned to Senate hearings and is facing graft and trafficking cases, has been accused of ties to illegal Philippine Offshore Gambling Operators and of lacking the Filipino citizenship required for her to hold office.

"Pursuant to the attached order dated 22 June 2024 of NPC Chairperson and former Senate President Vicente C. Sotto III, the undersigned hereby informs you that you have been removed from the NPC's roster of members effective immediately," NPC Secretary-General Mark Llandro Mendoza said in a letter dated June 23.

The recent controversies faced by Guo such as her alleged links to human trafficking and money laundering involving Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) in her town have put not only the mayor's integrity "into grave question" but also her adherence to the party's core values and sworn duties, said Mendoza.

Guo, who has been put on preventive suspension by the Office of the Ombudsman, faces qualified human trafficking charges before the Department of Justice.
"Despite calls from various sectors, your adamant refusal and failure to provide concrete and compelling evidence to disprove the damaging accusations against you, created serious doubts which the NPC has determined to be detrimental to its interests and time-honored principles," Mendoza said.

The NPC official also said the party "cannot tolerate" Guo's alleged "dishonest and predominantly deceitful conduct."

Sotto accepted the recommendation of Tarlac Gov. Susan Yap — chair of the provincial NPC chapter — to strip Guo of her membership as she has "not presented compelling evidence which would disprove" her supposed involvement in illegal gambling operations in Bamban.

Guo's removal from the NPC — one of the largest political parties in the Philippines — comes about four months before politicians who seek a post in the 2025 midterm polls file their certificates of candidacy before the Commission on Elections.
