Maria Tan, ABS-CBN News/File MANILA — Days after the clash between the Chinese navy and Philippine troops near Ayungin Shoal in the West Philippine Sea, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Tuesday reported the passing of a "large" China Coast Guard (CCG) vessel near the BRP Sierra Madre.

The AFP, through its public affairs chief Col. Xerxes Trinidad, said the presence of the 12,000-ton CCG ship near BRP Sierra Madre in Ayungin Shoal "is part of a broader pattern" of China's "intrusive patrols aimed at asserting unlawful claims over areas within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone (EEZ)."
