<p>MANILA — Senators were dismayed at Porac, Pampanga Mayor Jaime Capil for &quot;not asserting the authority of the local government&quot; during an attempted inspection at Lucky South 99, the illegal Philippine Offshore Gaming Operator (POGO) in his town, in August 2023.</p><p>According to Capil, who attended the hearing of the Senate Committee on Women, Children, Family Relations and Gender Equality, the inspection was requested by the local Philippine National Police chief who was new in the post at that time, and because there were corpses dumped near the area before.</p><p>The team was only allowed entry up to the hub’s guard house.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/regions/2024/6/9/another-raid-at-porac-pogo-hub-cash-jewelry-suspected-drugs-seized-1129">READ: Another raid at Porac POGO hub: Cash, jewelry, suspected drugs seized</a></div><p>“That’s a private property,” Capil said.</p><p>“Kung nag-insist po ang team baka kami naman po ang kasuhan (If we insisted, a complaint against us might have been filed).”</p><p>“I believe pag magha-halughog, search warrant na ang kaiilangan noon,” Capil added.</p><p>(I believe if we are going to go through a place, a search warrant is needed.)</p><p>This did not sit well with Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian, however.</p><p>“Dapat naghanap kayo ng legal basis kung paano makapasok. Ang tiningnan natin legal basis para di makapasok eh. Ang punto po natin kung tayo nakapasok, wala na po tayong pinag-uusapan,” Gatchalian emphasized.</p><p>(You should have looked for a legal basis on how to get inside. Instead, what you looked at is the legal basis to not enter.
