MANILA — The Philippine Statistics Authority is targeting 92 million registrations for the National ID System before the end of the year, an official said Friday.

Fred Sollesta, deputy national statistician of the PhilSys Registry Office of the Philippine Statistics Authority says they have already registered close to 88 million Filipinos so far.

“Currently, ngayon ay nagri-register kami ng less than 5 na ages of the population, iyong advantage naman nito ay para later, magamit nila iyan as a proof of identity and age kapag nag-enroll sila sa mga eskuwelahan and not necessarily na magsi-secure sila ng kanilang mga birth certificate para magpa-enroll,” he said.

Meanwhile, the PSA has released some 51.5 million physical and ePhilID cards.

“So, hinihikayat ko iyong mga hindi pa nag-register na segment ng population na magparehistro na tayo and ultimately, we will reap the benefit of having the National ID. Kasi, in terms of identity verification, ito iyong pinakamatibay dahil, later, gagamitin na natin iyong mga biometrics to ascertain the identity of the individual,” he said.
