MANILA — Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac on Monday said he is scheduled to fly to Saudi Arabia this month to “follow up” on the Kingdom’s commitment to settle unpaid salaries of overseas Filipino workers.

So far, Saudi has released 1,500 cheques for outstanding money claims of OFWs who had worked from Arab companies that have declared bankruptcies, Cacdac told state television PTV.

“P1 billion was disbursed from the Saudi side… We’re also working on future releases kasi mga 10,000 sila [na may claim],” he said.

In November 2023, Saudi Prince Mohammed Bin Salman told President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. that the Saudi government will settle backwages and claims for OFWs who were affected by the closures of Arab companies.

In January, Cacdac flew to the Middle East’s largest country to clarify and process for the claiming of these promised funds.
