MANILA — Commission on Elections (Comelec) chief George Garcia and former lawmaker Edgar Erice have threatened to file legal actions against each other over accusations surrounding the poll body's contract with South Korean firm Miru.

On Monday, Erice, a former House representative of Caloocan, presented what he called the “Bahamas Files,” which supposedly contains the list of 14 bank accounts amounting to $15 million or some P877 million belonging to a Comelec official and his wife.

It also included details of the said official’s reported properties in Singapore, Hong Kong, United States, and Makati City.

"Nakalagay po doon na isang Comelec official ang nakatanggap ng milyong dolyar mula sa South Korea, allegedly, from Miru," Erice said, referring to Miru Systems Co Ltd. which bagged the P17 billion contract to supply the automated election system in the 2025 polls.

Erice did not name the election official nor the source of the document.

Garcia, meanwhile, questioned the absence of the banks’ official logo or letterhead enumerated in the "Bahamas Files." Later, Garcia showed a  LandBank certification stating the identified account number in the Bahamas Files is "non-existent."

“Isa pa lang ito. Kung gaanong kadami ang bank accounts, ganun kadami ang falsification... Ngayon yung lahat ng bangko ay sinulatan ko rin ng ganito, humihingi ako sa kanila ng certification din na katulad ng ganito,” Garcia said.

The Comelec is now being assisted by the Department of Justice in examining the Bahamas Files.
