Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Information and Communication Technology (ICT)  teacher Gladys Ramirez is looking forward to having solar power in all the classrooms in the school in Barangay Buluang, Busuanga, in Palawan on November 29, 2022. <em>Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — Education Secretary Sonny Angara on Saturday said he is “confident” that public school teachers would get a salary hike under the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., underscoring that the Chief Executive recognizes educators as the “center” of the education system.</p><p>After his oath-taking on July 19, Angara had already spoken at least twice with the President over Department of Education’s (DepEd) direction under its new leadership.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/7/9/new-deped-chief-urged-to-raise-teacher-s-pay-to-p50-000-per-month-1305">• New DepEd chief urged to raise teacher&#x27;s pay to P50,000 per month</a></div><p>“Binanggit niya na yung mga teachers talaga ang gitna ng sistema, alagaan yung mga teachers, yung kanilang mga benepisyo,” Angara told reporters on the sidelines of an event in Malacañang.</p><p>Increments in salary have always been “a constant need of our teachers,” the Education chief said.</p><p>“It’s only a question of how much and when tataas yan pero I’m confident during the Marcos administration na tataas ang suweldo nila,” he said.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>ENTRY-LEVEL SALARY OF P50,000 UNLIKELY</strong></div><div><br/></div><p>Angara did not give a rate of the potential increase, but thumbed down proposals that the entry level salary of public school teachers should be at P50,000.</p><p>“I don’t think so kasi ang current entry level [salary] is P27,000,” he said.</p><p>“Kung P23,000 [increase] times 900,000 [teachers], mas mataas pa yun sa national budget sa totoo lang,” he said.</p><p>Angara said the President is also looking at creating new ranks for public school teachers to speed up the promotion of educators.</p><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/12/12/23/deped-on-incentive-for-teachers-we-cant-promise-maximum-amount">• DepEd on incentive for teachers: &#x27;We can’t promise maximum amount&#x27;</a></div><p>“In my initial consultations with the teachers, ang sinasabi nila kasi ang tagal bago ma-promote, 15 years na [nagtuturo] teacher 1 pa lang kami,” he said.</p><p>“We have to work at it from different angles, ‘yung teacher’s training, teacher’s promotion,” he said.</p><p>“Dapat motivated ang ating mga teachers kaya we will activate yung mga teacher education council, yung trainings nila,” he added.</p><p>Aside from teachers’ benefits and welfare, the President also tasked the DepEd to work on improving students’ test scores and the “employability of senior high school students,” Angara said.</p><p>The former Senator officially replaced Vice President Sara Duterte as DepEd Secretary on July 19, and is expected to report for his first day in the agency on July 22.</p><div><br/></div><div><strong>RELATED VIDEO</strong></div><div><ivs-player data-ivs-key="e8c22c015ca9eafa76f1e3edfa03c603" data-ivs-spid="3001339" data-ivs-vid="3042668"></ivs-player></div><script src="https://player.ivideosmart.com/ivsplayer/v4/dist/js/loader.js"></script>
