Rommel Francisco Marbil, chief of the Philippine National Police, made this statement Wednesday following Vice President Sara Duterte’s disclosure that 75 police officers assigned as her security escorts had been recalled by the PNP.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal;min-height:15px"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">Marbil said the escorts initially detailed to Duterte were recalled to augment police forces in the National Capital Region.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal;min-height:15px"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">He said many other police officers have been transferred from the national headquarters in Quezon City for deployment across Metro Manila.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"> </div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">“Ang priority po talaga namin ay NCR. We are really short of police officers there)</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><br/></div><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/7/23/vp-duterte-confirms-relief-of-75-cops-assigned-for-her-security-1656">READ: VP Duterte confirms relief of 75 cops assigned for her security</a></div><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">He said the PNP has sent 640 police personnel to the NCR, with 225 officers recalled from the Police Security and Protection Group.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">Duterte, in a statement on Tuesday, said that 75 of her police escorts had been recalled, adding this would not affect her work.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">&quot;I do hope, however, that with this latest directive of the Chief PNP, we hear less cries from the people regarding the proliferation of drugs in the country, and that even fewer shall fall victim to various criminal activities,&quot; she added.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><br/></div><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><strong>PNP CHIEF: OVP WAS CONSULTED ABOUT RECALL OF COPS</strong></div><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal;min-height:15px"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">He said the PNP had consulted with the Office of the Vice President before the personnel were recalled.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"> </div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">He said that the PNP initially had 106 personnel attached to the Vice President’s security detail.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"> </div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">“We requested the Office of the VP na kung pwedeng i-pull out yung 75 natin, because we really need yung mga personnel namin sa NCR. And pumayag naman po sila,” Marbil explained.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"> </div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">(We requested the Office of the VP to let us pull out the 75 because we really need personnel in NCR, and they agreed)</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal;min-height:15px"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">He added the recall will not affect Duterte’s security since her escorts will be augmented by local police when she is outside the capital.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"> </div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">“Lahat naman po, pagka meron silang request sa amin, nagpa-augment kami,” the PNP chef pointed out.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"> </div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">(If they have a request for more security, we augment)</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"> </div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">Duterte’s security escorts are being provided by the Department of National Defense through the Presidential Security Command, he said, adding the PNP can assign more people to protect her if needed.<br/><br/>“Marami na pong security siya and I cannot give the numbers kasi it’s a secret. Maliit lang po ang tinanggal natin sa security ng ating minamahal na Vice President,” he added.</p><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><br/></div><p style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal">(She already has a lot of security...
