MANILA — All the major political parties in the Philippines will be part of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas, House Speaker Martin Romualdez said, adding the candidates for the administration ticket will be chosen by consensus.

Romualdez, president of majority party Lakas-CMD, said the Villar-led Nacionalista Party is expected to join the alliance soon.

“Partido Federal has been very, very successful in creating alliances with the major political parties,” he said in an interview aired on Teleradyo Serbisyo’s “Gising Pilipinas” on Wednesday.

“So, Lakas was its first alliance partner, followed by the [Nationalist People’s Coalition], the [National Unity Party] just last weekend. I believe the NP will be following suit. So all the major political parties will be in alliance with Partido Federal of the President,” he said.

Surigao del Norte 2nd District Representative Robert Ace Barbers of NP said on Tuesday that he has no doubt the President’s sister Sen. Imee Marcos — a member of the Nacionalista Party — will be part of the administration’s Senate slate for the 2025 midterm elections.

“’Yung leadership ng alliance from each party, magkakaroon ng consensus siguro, may mga recommendations. Pagpipilian ng leaders ng alliance or coalition,” Romualdez said.

Marcos and his running mate Sara Duterte swept the 2022 elections under the UniTeam coalition, which was composed of the country's biggest political parties and families.

Marcos said in may that the new administration alliance would be a continuation of the UniTeam.

ROMUALDEZ SEEKING RE-ELECTION

Romualdez said he will be running for congressman of Leyte’s 1st District in 2025 and would be willing to take the helm of the House of Representatives again if elected by his colleagues.

“Of course,” Romualdez said of his readiness to be House speaker again.

“I will go for an election in my district and if other congressmen would so desire that I remain, and if the administration finds me an acceptable leader for the majority coalition, I will do that,” the House speaker said.

He said there is more to be done for Tacloban City and for his district, prompting him to run for re-election instead of seeking national office.

Romualdez reiterated that he will seek re-election, not run for higher office in 2025.

“Hindi ko puwedeng talikuran po ‘yun,” he said.

Asked about his plans for the 2028 national elections, Romualdez replied:

“Depende. Sa Diyos na lang ‘yun. We have to pray for that. Ako, I take it one day at a time”.
