Antonio Trillanes before the Department of Justice (DOJ), the trio and 7 others were accused of committing conspiracy in the smuggling of 600 kilos of shabu.</p><p>Trillanes based his complaint on the report of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, which conducted hearings on the incident.</p><p>“I [am] deeply concerned and troubled because of the government’s failure to prosecute the real culprit and real &#x27;big fishes&#x27; who have allowed illegal drugs to proliferate in our country,” Trillanes said in the complaint.</p><div><ivs-player data-ivs-key="e8c22c015ca9eafa76f1e3edfa03c603" data-ivs-spid="3001339" data-ivs-vid="3064489"></ivs-player></div><script src="https://player.ivideosmart.com/ivsplayer/v4/dist/js/loader.js"></script><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/08/29/18/4-charged-in-p24-billion-shabu-shipment">• 4 charged in P2.4-billion shabu shipment</a></div><p>The Dutertes had denied the accusation and called it &quot;harassment.&quot; </p><div><br/></div><div><strong>REP. Duterte said the charges were &quot;a welcome development.&quot; </p><p>&quot;Mas maganda ito dahil sa Korte ng Pilipinas ang pagdinig at hindi sa korte ng Facebook at utak ng isang trililing na sundalong kanin,&quot; he said.</p><p>&quot;This move will allow us to address these accusations through the proper legal channels, ensuring that the truth will prevail. I have always maintained my innocence, and I am confident that the judicial process will clear my name. It is important to rely on our legal institutions rather than resorting to trial by publicity or baseless allegations,&quot; he added.</p><p>Duterte criticized Trillanes for allegedly making baseless accusations in the past.</p><p>&quot;Please bear in mind that this is a similar case that Mr. Trillanes has made a fool out of himself when he presented his alleged evidence against me.... as a mercenary,&quot; Duterte said.</p><p>&quot;I am not surprised that Mr. Trillanes has once again fooled to fund this desperate attempt to peddle this baseless story to the Filipino people. I also look forward to the resolution of the libel cases I filed against him,&quot; he said.<strong></strong></p><div><br/></div><div><span id="isPasted" style="caret-color:rgb(0, 0, 0);color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"><span dir="ltr"></span></span></div><p><strong></strong>Salvador Panelo, former chief presidential legal counsel, said that if the Senate panel that probed the shabu haul &quot;did not find it correct or right to file or institute a case against them, [then] what is the basis of this case filed by this renegade soldier (Trillanes)?&quot;</p><p>&quot;He has been filing fake charges against almost everybody, those who [he] perceived to be, to his mind, guilty of a crime,&quot; Panelo told ANC. </p><p>Trillanes recalled that on May 17, 2017, the shabu shipment from China arrived at the Manila International Container Port and was approved for release through the “Green Lane” or express lane, which requires no further screening such as X-ray.</p><p>Trillanes cited the testimony of Customs broker Mark Ruben Taguba that Duterte and Carpio, who are supposedly “members of the Davao Group,&quot; only needed to call BOC collector Jet Maronilla to facilitate the clearance of the container.</p><p>Faeldon supposedly influenced fellow respondents to break the chain of custody and facilitate previous shipments of Taguba.</p><p>Trillanes urged the DOJ to initiate a preliminary investigation and the subsequent filing of charges of violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act against all respondents, as well as violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act for Duterte, Carpio, Faeldon, and 4 others.</p><div><a href="http://news.abs-cbn.com/news/08/29/17/desperate-rumor-duterte-son-in-law-explains-customs-visit" id="isPasted">• &#x27;Desperate rumor&#x27;: Duterte son-in-law explains Customs visit</a></div><p>“Needless to state, this is an opportunity for the Department of Justice to seriously look into, investigate and prosecute these &#x27;big fishes&#x27; who have made it possible to import gargantuan amounts of illegal drugs but who always evaded prosecution,” Trillanes said.</p><p>Trillanes explained the filing of the complaint seven years after the incident.</p><p>“Yung judiciary naman natin by and large functioning siya at patas siya, except for the cases na may interes ang mga Duterte, pag sa ganon talagang minamaniobra nila, pinipilipit ang batas at hudikatura para mapaboran sila at maproteksyunan sila.
