Nasunog ang tirikan ng kandila ng Immaculate Conception Cathedral sa Malinao, Pasig City, Miyerkoles ng gabi.

Ayon sa properties administrator ng Diocese of Pasig, nagsimula ang apoy sa mismong tirikan ng kandila malapit sa adoration room ng katedral.

“The area was actually the adoration room where people can go to pray in solitude. Outside the adoration room, we have a devotional candle and that’s where people light also candles. We prolong the lighting candle until it is already consumed, I think there was the spread of the wax,” ani Rev. Fr. Arnold Eramiz, properties administrator ng Diocese of Pasig.

“But the structure itself is the separate building from the main church of the cathedral. It is within the premise of the cathedral,” dagdag pa ni Eramiz.

Ayon sa simbahan, posibleng nagsimula ang sunog pasado alas-11 ng gabi nitong Miyerkoles kung saan may mga naiwan pang nakasinding kandila.

Sa pamamagitan ng social media, agad umanong naiparating ang insidente sa tanggapan ng Pasig Fire Station kaya mabilis na naapula ang apoy.

“May mga instances na before pero ngayon na lang ulit naulit pero at least mabilis ‘yong responde through social media. ‘Yong ating mga [volunteers] sa barangay, at sa fire protection,” saad ni Rev. Fr. Daniel Estacio, ang Resident Priest ng Immaculate Conception Cathedral.

Walang naiulat na nasaktan habang patuloy ang imbestigasyon ng BFP sa insidente.
