<p>MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is now in the process of filing an administrative case against the owner of the marine vessel Mirola 1, which grounded in the waters of Mariveles town, Bataan province, causing an oil leak, an official said on Saturday.</p><div><br/></div><p>Lieutenant Commander Michael John Encina, Coast Guard Bataan Station commander, said the PCG has already summoned the owner of MV Mirola 1, identified as Mary Jane Ubaldo, for the adjudication of the case.</p><div> </div><p>“Sa amin po sa Philippine Coast Guard, we are primarily focused on the violation and the safety standards na na-commit po nito at pagtakas po nito sa custodial ship ng coast guard natin sa Navotas,” Encina said.</p><div><br/></div><div><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/7/2/china-ph-agree-to-deescalate-tensions-in-west-philippine-sea-1855">China, PH agree to ease tensions in West Philippine Sea</a></div><div><br/></div><p>The MV Mirola 1 reportedly escaped from Navotas port and sailed to Bataan without seeking clearance from the PCG, eventually running aground in Sitio Quiapo, Barangay Biaan, Mariveles on July 23.</p><div> </div><p>The vessel has been successfully towed and is now moored at a shipyard in Barangay Alas-Asin, Mariveles.</p><div> </div><p>“MV Mirola 1 is already stable,” Encina said. “Definitely, si Mirola po is already contained na. We are now in the process ng kanyang administrative case.”</p><div> </div><p>Security measures have also been implemented for the ship, according to Encina.</p><div> </div><p>“Napaligiran na po natin ito ng oil spill boom just for containment purposes at for any expectation na…though wala na po itong oil or langis sa loob, it is also part of our security measures para hindi po basta-basta makakaalis ‘yong barkong ‘yan,” he said.</p><div> </div><p>Efforts to control oil spills are also underway for two other vessels that sank off Bataan&#x27;s waters in late July during a bad weather.</p><div><br/></div><div style="margin-bottom:0px;line-height:normal"><a href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/regions/2024/8/5/790-liters-of-oil-water-mixture-collected-from-mv-mirola-1-1435">790 liters of oil-water mixture collected from MV Mirola-1</a></div><div> </div><p>Siphoning operations are still in progress for the MT Terranova, which was loaded with 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel oil when it capsized and sank near Lamao Point, Limay town.</p><div> </div><p>Booster pumps stalled at the Terranova have now been extracting oil at a rate of 11,600 liters per hour. The contracted salvor, Harbor Star, reported over 178,000 liters of collected oil as of Friday.</p><div> </div><p>Meanwhile, contracted salvor Fes Challenger is currently performing resealing and patching of the manholes and air vents in preparation for the refloating of the MTKR Jason Bradley, which sank off Barangay Cabcaben in Mariveles. Siphoning is expected to start on Wednesday.</p><div> </div><p>“Strike 1 na po tayo. Naayos na po natin ‘yong isang maritime incident. We will now proceed with the administrative case. Ganito po ‘yon: unahin natin ‘yong operations, containment ng oil spill, retrieval ng vessel, then we proceed to the administrative cases,&quot; Encina said.</p><div><br/></div><div><br/></div>
