Jervis Manahan, ABS-CBN News"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">An aerial survey of the Subi/Zamora Reef in the West Philippine Sea. <em>Jervis Manahan, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA -- The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) successfully conducted a maritime patrol of the Sandy Cays of Pagasa Island and a resupply mission to fishermen in Escoda Shoal.</p><p>The Sandy Cays are sandbars near Pagasa Island which serves as fishing grounds for Filipino fishermen in the island.</p><p>Despite multiple radio challenges sent by Chinese Coast Guard Vessel 5202, the maritime patrol turned out successful.</p><p>&quot;Mahalaga ang Sandy Cays sa atin. Alam natin isla ng Pag-asa, nag-generate ng territorial sea. As far as Philippine government is concerned, mapapag-patrolan natin ito,&quot; PCG Spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea Jay Tarriela said.</p><p>(The Sandy Cays are important to us because we know Pag-asa Island generates a territorial sea. As far as the Philippine government is concerned, we can do patrols here.)</p><p>&quot;Nagpapatunay ito na wala pang katotohanan na Chinese have taken control of the Sandy Cays,&quot; Tarriela added.</p><p>(These patrols show that there is no truth that the Chinese have taken control of our Sandy Cays.)</p><p>BFAR&#x27;s mission also conducted a resupply mission in Escoda Shoal, where several Filipino fishermen boats were conducting fishing activities.</p><p>Personnel from the PCG vessel BRP Teresa Magbanua assisted the resupply mission, in what they called &#x27;Bayanihan sa Karagatan&#x27;.</p><p>More than a dozen Filipino boats were given free fuel.</p><p>&quot;The objective of BFAR pumalaot para mag distribute ng fuel para sa West PH Sea.
