Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News"/><span class="fr-inner" style="text-align:left">Pastor Apollo Quiboloy, along with other accused individuals, is presented during a briefing at the PNP Headquarters at Camp Crame in Quezon City on September 9, 2024. <em id="isPasted">Jonathan Cellona, ABS-CBN News</em></span></span></span></div><p>MANILA — The United States Department of Justice said it will not comment on extradition matters, following the surrender of Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) founder Pastor Apollo Quiboloy to Philippine authorities.</p><p>&quot;As a matter of policy, the U.S. Department of Justice generally does not comment on extradition-related matters until a defendant is in the United States,&quot; US DOJ spokesperson Nicole Navas Oxman said in a message to ABS-CBN News.</p><p>The detained religious leader is on the most wanted list of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) as he faces multiple charges in the US Central District Court of California.</p><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/9/10/no-vip-treatment-for-quiboloy-co-accused-bjmp-2133" rel="noopener" target="_new">No VIP treatment for Quiboloy, co-accused: BJMP</a></div><div><a class="fr-green fr-strong" href="https://news.abs-cbn.com/news/2024/9/10/pnp-defends-covering-faces-of-quiboloy-co-accused-in-recent-arrest-1839" rel="noopener" target="_new">PNP defends covering faces of Quiboloy co-accused in recent arrest</a></div><p>In November 2021, Quiboloy was indicted by a federal grand jury for conspiracy to engage in sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion and sex trafficking of children; sex trafficking by force, fraud and coercion; conspiracy; and bulk cash smuggling.</p><p>Quiboloy is also wanted by US authorities for a scheme that brought church members to the US using fraudulently obtained visas.</p><p>These people were then forced to solicit donations for a bogus charity, raising funds used to finance church operations and the lavish lifestyles of its leaders, according to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation.</p><p>A federal warrant was then issued for his arrest.</p><div><span class="fr-video fr-deletable fr-fvc fr-dvb fr-draggable" contenteditable="false" draggable="true"><iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/rboelpng0GA?&amp;wmode=opaque&amp;rel=0" frameBorder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe></span><strong>QUIBOLOY&#x27;S CO-ACCUSED </strong></div><p>Two of the pastor&#x27;s co-accused in the cases, Teresita Dandan and Helen Panilag, have not yet been arrested.</p><p>Another co-accused, Maria De Leon, a Los Angeles paralegal, agreed to plea guilty to participating in a scheme with administrators of the KOJC church. She also agreed to cooperate with the US government on the case.</p><p>The remaining co-accused are Felina Salinas, Guia Cabactulan, Marissa Duenas, Amanda Estopare and Bettina Padilla Roces.</p><p>Questions on extradition were revived after Quiboloy surrendered on Sunday, ending the months-long search of authorities for the pastor.</p><p>President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. earlier said the country is not looking to extradite Quiboloy, as the focus is on the cases in the Philippines.</p><div><strong>US EXTRADITION REQUEST LOOMS: REMULLA</strong></div><p>Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said he expects the US to request for Quiboloy&#x27;s extradition &quot;very soon.&quot;</p><p>But Remulla believes the detained pastor should first face the charges against him here, hoping there would be no delays when the cases are tried in court.</p><p>In the Philippines, the pastor faces charges of child abuse and sexual abuse before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 106 and human trafficking before the Pasig City Regional Trial Court Branch 159.
