MANILA — Senatorial hopefuls of the Makabayan Bloc are tapping the "volunteerism" of the youth to drumbeat their fight in next year's elections.

Former Gabriela congresswoman Liza Maza said they are focusing on the youth as part of their "campaign with the agenda for change."

"Wala man kaming pera, pero eto nang ang mga volunteers... yung maggawa lang ng mga poster. Ang mga kabataan natin very active sa socmed (social media). And we know that socmed is also a platform na pwede naming i-maximize... sa tulong ng mga kabataan who can be socmed warrior for change. Palagay ko napaka-positibo ng maisusulong natin," Maza told ABS-CBN News.

Ma. Haiza Bernardo, who will be voting for the first time next year, sees a "diverse" batch of senatorial hopefuls which gives them a wider perspective when it comes to who to vote for.

Her hope as a first-time voter, she said, is to see candidates keeping their word.

"And personal preference ko po talaga yung nakakasama ng taumbayan... yun po eh parang sign na na handa silang magserbisyo... sana hindi po yun masira at huwag po silang mabulag ng kapangyarihan," she said.

"Sobrang importante nya kasi po dito nakasalalay yung future po natin ngayon... pati po yung susunod na generation. Kaya dapat po sa pagboto po, maging sobrang makilatis po tayo. Yun pong para sa bansa, para sa tao. Hindi po yung pang-sariii lang," Silvestre said.
