MANILA — (UPDATED) Garbage surfaced along Talayan Creek in Quezon City amid heavy rains brought by tropical storm Enteng on Monday.

Single-use packaging like plastic bottles and styrofoam made up most of the trash that emerged with the flood water.

Resident Randy Aniban said such sight is expected during the rainy season despite trash being hauled every week.

By afternoon of Monday, the city’s Department of Sanitation and Cleanup Works, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, as well as the waste collection of Skyway started its cleanup of the creek.

“Nahahakot naman nila lagi ito… ‘Pag umaagos, tumataas ang tubig niyan, inaanod ang basura papunta rito,” Aniban said.

According to officials of Barangay Sto. Domingo, one of the areas where the creek passes through, trash from the upper side of the creek particularly in Balintawak end up in their village.

Water in Talayan Creek overflowed to Araneta Avenue and nearby areas due to monsoon rains brought by super typhoon Carina in July. — Video from Val Cuenca, ABS-CBN News
